In the weeks leading up to aHUS awareness day an announcement was made which did not get the attention it perhaps should have.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its far-reaching consequences, the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research have twice ( in October 2020 and July 2021) had to postpone a symposium about complement mediated kidney diseases in Bergamo. Italy.
It is now planned for June 23-25, 2022.
The ISN regard their Frontiers Symposia as “events which delivers cutting-edge science to a global audience, breaking down cross-regional barriers in accessing the latest knowledge and expertise”.
The meeting will focus on the two complement-mediated kidney diseases: atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) and C3 Glomerulopathies /Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis (C3G/MPGN). Both as we know are very rare and severe diseases.
Hosts Prof. Guiseppe Remuzzi and Dr Marina Norris will welcome visitors to the splendid venue for the conference near the “Villa Camozzi” in Ranica, near Bergamo, at the Centro Congressi Giovanni XXIII in the centre city centre
The three days are split into sessions between MPGN, aHUS and Complement. There are speakers already scheduled from eight countries from Europe and the USA. On Day 2 morning session, the focus will be on aHUS. Also on the morning of the final day there will be a session where ” Doctors meet the aHUS patients”.
As always at such conferences there will be oral presentations of research abstracts and with posters displayed
aHUS alliance Global Action is currently planning to be there to report on events, meet old friends and hopefully make new friendships with clinicians in countries where aHUS advocacy may not yet have a footprint. COVID 19 permitting.
