aHUS transplants simplified

This website has featured several articles* about the topic of  aHUS Transplants and their need for  eculizumab support. These articles have provided some of the  answers about whether  eculizumab is needed to avoid a re-onset of aHUS when triggered by the transplant, and whether eculizumab should be given before or after the transplant operation.
We know now that not all transplants need eculizumab, but , if they do, they should be supported before the operation rather than after it for the bests results i.e. the quality of kidney  function and longevity of the kidney graft. Information is also now emerging about whether, and when, eculizumab treatment can be withdrawn. It  can in some cases, at some point in time.
This summer an article was published by Dr Anuja Java about managing aHUS transplants (click HERE to see the abstract). It was accompanied by an infographic which summarises , in a simple way, what has been learned about aHUS transplants in the past few years.
